Sci-Fi Metal: Xoth - Interdimensional Invocations

Image
A big eye appears in the sky, tentacles and slime, worshipped by a cult. This cover is absolutely amazing and was the reason to order this LP. It's been a few weeks ago, that I saw this article on TOXIC METAL ZINE with the announcement of a vinyl release. I remember that Xoth was already mentioned on Banger TV in October 2019 by Blayne Smith and give it again a quick listen and directly ordered it. This week the LP finally arrived. Direct on to the turntable and crank up the volume. The records starts with a strange, high guitar riff which offers directly a "space" feeling and kicks right after into a nice death metal sound. The second song - "Mountain Machines" - is my favourite one. I love the melodic parts, which are guiding you through the whole song. I wish the song was twice as long, can't get enough of it. Well, and the rest? I think I have to learn a lot how to describe a metal record, so I just say: Awesome and just listen to it. So, if you want ...

A metal journey: Let there be NWOBHM

And the devil speaks: Let there be light! And as the darkness vanished a tree gets visible and a kind little guy in that tree began to sing: "Fear of the dark, fear of the dark...." Iron Maiden - Fear of the dark was my choice. I rushed home, turned on my stereo system and was flashed. The opening title "Be quick or be dead" was the fastest and hardest piece of rock music I heard until that. And as the last cord of the last track, "Fear of the Dark" itself was over, I know that from now on, heavy metal would be my kind of music for the future and rest of my life. In fact there was of course more than metal music in my life. I still listen some of my previous music. AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Die Ärzte (a German punk rock band), but my metal collection keeps growing. Piece of mind, No prayer for the dying, The number of the beast.... All great albums by Iron Maiden. I added some Judast Priest, Helloween and Manowar.  This should be my music setup for the fo...

In the beginning, there was no metal. The jacket was empty and bold. But then, in a dark and stormy November night, a new metalhead was born. His arrival was announced by a huge thunderstruck and world stands still for a second. But I took 18 more years until he unleashed his whole potential of listening to brutal music.... Well, my story starts not exactly like that. The weather indeed was nice, about 3°C and the sun was shining. But indeed, I discovered heavy metal very late at the age of 18. It was the birthday of one of my best friends, his 18th. I asked him what I could get him as a present and the answer was: Iron Maiden - Brave new world. He was very happy as he opened his present and put the record right on. It was my very first time listening to metal and it was awesome. Until that I listened most of the time to rock & pop music. Most of the time it was rock, because my parents are huge Rolling Stones fans and listen to a lot classic rock in general. So I listened to, o...
